Description
San Francisco 49ers fans are excited to see the impact that defensive tackle Javon Hargrave will have on the team’s defense in the upcoming season. The 49ers acquired Hargrave during free agency, signing him to a four-year deal worth $80 million.
Hargrave, who will wear number 98 for the 49ers, comes to San Francisco after spending his first five seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers and one season with the Philadelphia Eagles. During his time in the league, he has established himself as a dominant interior presence, recording 23 sacks, 56 tackles for loss, and 127 quarterback hits in six seasons.
The addition of Hargrave is expected to bolster a 49ers defensive line that already includes star players such as Nick Bosa and Arik Armstead. With Hargrave occupying blockers in the middle of the defense, Bosa and Armstead should have even more opportunities to rush the passer from the outside.
One interesting aspect of Hargrave’s arrival in San Francisco is that he will be wearing an olive/camo “Salute to Service” jersey for select games this season. This special uniform honors members of the military and their families, which is particularly fitting given that Hargrave grew up in a military family himself. His father served in the Army for over two decades, and Hargrave spent much of his childhood moving around as his family followed his dad to different duty stations.
Fans can expect to see Hargrave make his debut in the 49ers’ new look when they take on the Chicago Bears in Week 1. Given his track record of success and the talent surrounding him on the defensive line, there is no doubt that Hargrave will be a key contributor to the 49ers’ defense in 2023 and beyond.
